UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith Runs Unopposed
Following the nomination for the International Executive Board positions, Region 8 assembled in their assigned meeting room as chants of four more years filled the air. UAW President Shawn Fain conducted the nomination process. Local 3063 member Renard Duvall came forward to nominate Tim Smith for reelection as Region 8 Director. “There isn’t much I can say about Tim that all of you don’t know,” Renard stated. “You know what kind of man he is and how hard he works for us all.” There were no other nominations, essentially electing Tim Smith by acclimation.
Director Smith was hired as a machine operator in November 1987 at Dana Perfect Circle in Franklin, Kentucky. The plant was organized and UAW Local 2370 was chartered in March 1997. Tim was a key member of the VOC and helped the plant become organized. He also helped organize Local 2407/Rane Precision Diecasting in Russellville, Kentucky and Local 3047/Metalsa Structural in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
From 1997 to 2008, UAW Local 2370 members elected Tim to serve in numerous positions: including the Bylaws Committee, Alternate Steward, Committeeman for two terms, and President. Tim was appointed by then Region 3’s Director Mo Davison in January of 2008 as an International Representative. His assignment as a servicing representative in Region 3 included automotive and numerous automotive supplier locations (Dana, GM, Waste Management, IAC, Metalsa, Rane Precision Diecasting, and Rocore Thermal Systems) in Kentucky.
Tim was appointed by Director Ray Curry to Assistant Director June 2018. He was elected Director of UAW Region 8 during the general election for the International Executive Board in November 2022. He has served Region 8 for the past four years, covering 17 states and multiple sectors. Tim is a member of Crittenden Drive Church of Christ. He has two children: Zach Smith and Aeron Westbrook and four grandchildren, Colton, Leni, Ava, and Sadie Kate. Tim currently resides in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
“Thank you all”, stated Tim Smith. I look forward to serving you all over the next four years. Region 8 has been and will continue to lead the way. It is a group effort and I appreciate you all.”
