UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith Announces Bid For Reelection

Hi I am Tim Smith and I am running for reelection for the office of UAW 8 Region Director. For the past four years I have had the privilege of serving as your Regional Director. I am asking you for your vote to serve for the next four years.

Region 8 is now the largest geographical region in the UAW and the region with the most members. It has been the solidarity of this membership that has made our Region successful. The manner in which each of you conduct yourself in the workplace, in the communities and at union events make the UAW a union that workers all over the south want to join.

There were those who encouraged me to run for a “higher office” because of the success we have seen in Region 8, but to me there is no office I had rather hold than Region 8 Director. I was born and raised in Kentucky and this is where I want to spend the rest of my life. You are my people, my family and I can't think of anywhere else I want to be.

Over the past four years I have cris-crossed our 17 states. From picket lines, to plant visits, local events, region events and everything in between, being with you all has meant the world to me. Last year I made over 60 flights in my job as Director, crisscrossing our region to assist and support you. While it is hard to be away from my immediate family, I take comfort in knowing I am supporting my union family as I log miles in the sky.

I am proud of the advancements we have made over the past four years and hope to continue to watch this region grow with your support. Working families are under attack these days from all sides, as the wealthy exercise their power and control. We cant outspend them but we can out work them and solidarity is how we do that.

Again, I thank you all for entrusting the leadership of Region 8 to me over the past four years and humbly ask for your vote again. Together we can continue to keep Region 8 a leader in the UAW.
